If you replaced an HVAC system, added insulation, or installed a heat pump in the last few years without filing for rebates, you may have missed real money. Programs change yearly and the paperwork is intimidating — but the savings are sitting there.
Here's the plain-English version of what's available in Northwest Georgia and how to actually get it.
HER — Home Energy Rating Program
HER is a Georgia program that gives homeowners energy-efficiency rebates after a certified Home Energy Rating by an authorized contractor. Anderson is a certified HER rater.
- What's rebated: insulation, air sealing, ductwork improvements, weatherization
- Typical rebate range: $500 – $3,500 depending on scope
- Requirement: certified rater performs a blower-door test and energy audit
HEAR — Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates
HEAR is a federal program (Inflation Reduction Act) administered through Georgia. Larger rebates than HER, especially for heat pump conversions.
- Heat pump installation: up to $8,000 (income-qualified)
- Heat pump water heater: up to $1,750
- Electrical panel upgrade: up to $4,000
- Insulation, air sealing, ventilation: up to $1,600
Income limits apply for the higher tiers. Mid-income households often still qualify for partial rebates.
Georgia Power Rebates
Georgia Power runs its own rebate program for residential customers. Anderson is an authorized partner contractor.
- High-efficiency AC and heat pump rebates — typically $300 – $1,200
- Smart thermostat rebates — small but adds up
- Whole-home energy assessment — sometimes free for qualifying homes
The Anderson Difference:
We do the paperwork. Most HVAC contractors hand you a brochure and say "good luck." We handle the application, the documentation, the blower-door test, the inspection, and the submission. The rebate hits your account weeks or months after the install — without you doing the legwork.
How the Process Actually Works
- Call us — we identify which programs you qualify for based on your home, income, and project scope
- Pre-work assessment — energy audit and documentation
- Installation — high-efficiency equipment that meets rebate criteria
- Post-install verification — final inspection and paperwork
- Rebate filing — we submit on your behalf
- You get a check or bill credit — typically 4-12 weeks later
