Signs to Watch For

Signs Your Crawlspace Needs Attention

What happens under the house shows up inside it, in the floors, the air and the power bill.

  • Cold floors in winter

Floors over an open, uninsulated crawlspace lose heat all season.

  • Musty smells inside

Air from a damp crawlspace rises into the living space and carries the smell with it.

  • Humidity that won’t come down

A wet crawlspace adds moisture the AC has to remove, so the house can feel sticky even when it’s cool.

  • Standing water or wet soil

Water under the house calls for drainage and moisture control before anything else.

  • Sagging or fallen insulation

Wet insulation gets heavy and drops off the floor joists, leaving the floor bare.

  • Ductwork in the crawlspace

Ducts running through a damp crawlspace lose energy and can pull moist air into the system.

We do crawlspace work for homes in Northwest Georgia from our Calhoun shop, including Gordon, Bartow, Whitfield, Floyd, Murray and Pickens counties. Check our full service area. Pair it with insulation & air sealing or a whole-home energy audit.

How It Works

How Crawlspace Encapsulation Works

  1. Inspect

We check moisture, drainage, insulation, ductwork and the vents and access door that let outside air in.

  2. Fix the water first

Drainage or a sump pump where water collects, because sealing over a wet crawlspace doesn’t solve it.

  3. Seal and insulate

A heavy-duty vapor barrier on the floor and walls, sealed vents and access door, and air sealing and insulation that work with the sealed space.

  4. Control humidity

A crawlspace dehumidifier keeps the space dry so the floors above stay comfortable.

Most crawlspaces take 2–4 days. Because the crawlspace is part of the home’s air barrier, we often plan it alongside attic air sealing and insulation, and some crawlspaces get closed-cell spray foam on the foundation walls and rim joists.

Why It Matters

BPI-Certified Crawlspace Encapsulation in Calhoun

Many crawlspaces in Northwest Georgia act like a sponge — pulling moisture, mold spores, and allergens into your living space. Anderson Heating, Air & Insulation became BPI certified to fix these hidden problems the right way.

"We don't just cover the dirt. We turn your crawlspace into a dry, healthy part of your home." The Anderson Difference

Why Anderson

Why Anderson Excels at Crawlspace Work

  • BPI-certified testing and solutions. We measure moisture levels, test for mold, and design a custom encapsulation plan based on your home's specific conditions.
  • Integrated with HVAC and insulation. We don't treat the crawlspace in isolation. We make sure it works with your insulation, air sealing, and HVAC system.
  • 48 years of expertise. Family-owned since 1978. We know how Georgia's climate affects crawlspaces and how to fix them.

Crawlspace work can also be part of a project under Georgia's home energy rebate programs when the home's energy model calls for eligible insulation, air sealing or other building-envelope measures. It doesn't qualify automatically, and final eligibility is determined by the program administrator.

FAQ

Crawlspace Encapsulation Questions

What is crawlspace encapsulation?

Crawlspace encapsulation seals your crawlspace with a heavy-duty vapor barrier on the floors and walls, combined with insulation and often a dehumidifier, turning it into a conditioned, dry space instead of a damp, moldy one.

How does crawlspace encapsulation help my home?

It stops moisture and mold, improves indoor air quality, reduces energy bills by making your HVAC more efficient, and helps protect your home's structure.

Is crawlspace encapsulation worth the cost in Georgia?

Georgia's humid climate makes crawlspace moisture control especially valuable. Lower energy bills and avoided mold repairs help offset the cost, and we'll explain what to expect for your home before you decide.

How long does crawlspace encapsulation take?

Most residential crawlspaces are completed in 2-4 days depending on size, access, and whether insulation or dehumidification is added.

Do you offer financing for crawlspace work?

Yes. We offer financing through Optimus (GreenSky, Wisetack) and senior/military discounts to make this important upgrade affordable.

Why are my floors cold in winter?

Floors over a vented, uninsulated crawlspace sit above outside air all winter. Sealing the crawlspace, insulating it and controlling moisture keeps that floor much closer to room temperature.

What areas do you serve for crawlspace encapsulation?

We serve Northwest Georgia from our shop in Calhoun, including Gordon, Bartow, Whitfield, Floyd, Murray and Pickens counties. If you're not sure your home is in our area, call (706) 629-0749 and we'll tell you.
