Where It Started
Raised Behind a Calhoun Grocery Counter
Before there was ever an Anderson truck on the road, there was a neighborhood grocery store in Calhoun — back when folks still saved their Green Stamps. JD and Amanda “Bobby” Anderson ran it, and their kids, John, David, and Susan, grew up behind the counter: bagging groceries, greeting neighbors by name, and learning the look-you-in-the-eye kind of service small towns run on.
When the store’s coolers broke down, JD showed John how to bring them back to life. Something clicked. John wanted to know how things actually worked — and how to make them work right. That curiosity carried him from the store’s coolers into refrigeration, and from refrigeration into heating and air.
The Turning Point
“My New Unit Is In. Why Is My Power Bill Still So High?”
John opened his business in 1978 doing what every HVAC tech did: installing and repairing equipment. But the calls kept coming back with the same frustration. Brand-new system. Same uncomfortable rooms. Same painful bill.
Most contractors would have shrugged and moved to the next job. John didn’t.
“I realized I had to own the whole-house power bill — not just swap the box.”
So he went looking for the real cause — and found it in the house itself: leaky ductwork, thin insulation, and air escaping through gaps nobody was measuring. He learned the building science, became BPI Certified, and built a custom sheet-metal shop on Pine Street so his team could make ductwork that actually fit. Anderson is still a BPI-certified HVAC and insulation company in Gordon County today.
The result: one family-owned company that handles your heating, air, insulation, and whole-home comfort — instead of three contractors who each fix a third of the problem.

Shyloh — who became like family to John over the years and is still his right hand — stepped in to run the day-to-day: the team, the operations, the systems, and the rebrand to Anderson Heating, Air & Insulation. As Vice President, Shyloh makes sure John’s standard reaches every customer, every time. One generation built it; the next is carrying it forward better than it’s ever been.
You’ll find that same neighbor-first spirit outside of work, too. Shyloh serves on the Calhoun Young Professionals Committee, sings with the Community Chorus, and performs with Calhoun Little Theater — and the whole crew treats every job like a relationship with a neighbor, not a transaction with a stranger.

The Shop Pickleball Court
Out in the big lot behind the shop, we painted our own pickleball court — red edges and white kitchen lines, courtesy of a can of Dollar General spray paint. Half the crew plays nearly every day, drivers honk as they pass, and once a year we close for a half-day employee tournament with hamburgers and a trophy. It’s where the Anderson camaraderie lives.
“The Dog Truck”
Our logo is John holding up a finger with his loyal dog Gypsy in his lap. It started as a happy accident the day our branding came to life — and it stuck, because it’s exactly who we are: down-to-earth, genuine, and proud to be your neighbors. Around town, kids spot the bright purple-and-orange truck and call it “the dog truck.” We wouldn’t have it any other way.
